About the Event

Embark on Day 3 of the Dun Holm 5 in 5 Days Challenge, where runners are invited to explore Durham’s scenic route. This year's theme celebrates the city itself, and participants will receive a medal adorned with iconic place names from around Durham.
Scheduled for Saturday, May 29th, 2027, this event offers flexibility: you can sign up for all five days at once or choose individual events to suit your schedule. The official start time is set for 10:30 AM, and the race takes place at Durham Amateur Rowing Club on Green Lane in Old Elvet.
Licensed by both the Trail Running Association and UK Athletics, this event adheres strictly to safety guidelines while welcoming runners from all backgrounds. Members of affiliated clubs will enjoy a £2 discount upon registration.
The 7-hour time challenge allows participants full control over their distance within the limits set by age-specific rules enforced by UK Athletics. The minimum requirement is 3 kilometers, with each lap measuring approximately 4.37 miles or 7 kilometers (subject to change based on course conditions). You can complete as many laps as you wish, from a half marathon at three laps up to an ultra-distance run of seven laps and beyond.
The route winds along the picturesque River Wear, offering stunning views of Durham Cathedral. Fully marked with clear signage, this trail is ideal for runners of all skill levels, including those who prefer walking portions.
Finishers will receive a themed medal upon completing at least 3 kilometers, while additional distance pins are available to commemorate half-marathon distances and beyond.
A goody bag filled with treats awaits every finisher, catering even to vegan runners with special selections. A well-stocked aid table is provided near the start/finish area, offering an array of snacks and beverages, including vegan options.
For those celebrating a milestone marathon or half-marathon run, please inform us in advance for personalized recognition on race day.
Facilities at the venue include toilets and changing areas, with bag drop available nearby. However, runners should note that this is not a supervised area; participants are responsible for their belongings left unattended.
Car parking options are limited to city center pay-and-display spaces due to restrictions around the rowing club premises.
Race day instructions will be emailed out one week prior, and number pick-up takes place on-site before the start of the event.
