Welcome to the Dun Holm Challenge 2027, an invigorating race that celebrates Durham's rich history and scenic beauty. This year’s theme is all about exploring the city through its landmarks as you navigate around one of England’s most picturesque routes. The event offers a flexible challenge format over seven hours, allowing participants to choose their distance based on personal preference or fitness level. Whether it’s your first time racing or you’re looking for an endurance test, this course caters to all abilities. The minimum distance is 3 kilometers, while the full lap measures approximately 7 kilometers (though conditions may adjust this slightly). Laps can be completed as many times as desired within the event window. The route winds along a stunning stretch of the River Wear, providing breathtaking views of Durham Cathedral and its historic surroundings. This trail run is fully marked for easy navigation, making it accessible even to those new to longer-distance events. Race entries are available individually or as part of an all-week package, offering flexibility in participation. The entry fees reflect this choice, with affiliated runners paying £125 and unattached participants at £135. Upon crossing the finish line after completing a minimum 3-kilometer distance, you’ll receive a specially themed medal featuring Durham’s iconic landmarks. For those who cover half-marathon distances or beyond, additional achievement pins are awarded to recognize your efforts. Post-race refreshments include an array of snacks and beverages available at the aid station near the start/finish line. Vegan options are also provided for dietary preferences. A selection of goody bags awaits all finishers as a token of appreciation for their hard work. The race venue, Durham Amateur Rowing Club on Green Lane in Old Elvet, offers basic amenities such as toilets and changing facilities. Bag drop services are available near the event area but participants should note that these areas are unattended and not responsible for lost items. Parking is available nearby at pay-and-display lots within the city center; however, runners must refrain from using the rowing club’s private lot. Detailed race day instructions will be communicated via email prior to the start date, including information on number pick-up procedures. Participants are encouraged to wear bone-conducting headphones if they choose audio accompaniment and to remain mindful of fellow path users while enjoying this scenic route through Durham's historic streets and riverside paths. Join us for an unforgettable running experience that combines personal challenge with a celebration of local heritage.
