The Drop - Winchester

The Drop challenges runners to navigate through uncertainty without relying on traditional aids like maps or GPS. This unique experience takes place at an undisclosed location, where participants must find their own way back to the finish line using only their wits and instincts.
There are three options for The Drop: a 15-mile challenge, a 10-mile version, and a shorter 6-mile option exclusively for non-locals. Each variant shares the same core principle of no assistance or guidance; participants must rely solely on themselves to make it back safely.
For both the 15-mile and 10-mile routes, runners are dropped off in an unknown location and must navigate their way back with nothing but a sealed emergency bag provided at registration. The event emphasizes self-reliance, as competitors face no markers or directions — just the open terrain stretching out before them.
The Drop 6 is designed for those new to the area who wish to experience the challenge without leveraging local knowledge that might give an unfair advantage.
Upon arrival, runners hand over all electronic devices and receive their race numbers along with a sealed emergency bag they must carry throughout the event. They board a bus wearing blindfolds or approved alternatives, ensuring complete disorientation upon disembarking at the drop-off point. Once the blindfold is removed, participants are on their own to chart a path back.
The rules are strict: no GPS devices (except those in sealed emergency bags), no unauthorized maps, and no shortcuts allowed. The event also includes live GPS tracking as an optional safety feature for runners who wish to share their progress with friends or family.
