Participants can choose between two distances: 15 miles or 10 miles, and compete either solo or in teams of their choice. Upon registration, you'll hand over all electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids in exchange for a race number and an emergency bag.
The journey begins with a bus ride to an undisclosed drop-off point where you’ll don a blackout blindfold (or use an alternative if necessary) before being let off alone in the wilderness. From there, it’s up to your wits and determination as you find your way back to the event center without any maps or GPS assistance.
The challenge is straightforward yet daunting: no compasses, no help, just a reliance on your sense of direction and survival instincts. The distances are measured as straight lines between points (as the crow flies), but actual routes may be longer due to terrain and obstacles.
As you step off the bus, all electronic devices must remain sealed in the emergency bag provided at registration. Breaking this rule will result in immediate disqualification. No shortcuts or unauthorized maps allowed; it’s your legs alone that get you through.
For those who wish for an added layer of safety, live GPS tracking is available as an optional feature. This system allows friends and family to follow your progress online using a password sent out days before the event begins. Trackers must be returned at the end of the race; failure to do so incurs a £175 replacement fee.
