The Descent 2

Experience the thrill of pure downhill running at The Descent 2, an exhilarating race that takes you from the heights above Calderdale to the heart of Sowerby Bridge. Starting high up at Baitings Reservoir (975ft) and finishing in town at a lower elevation of 252ft, this 10km route offers over 700 feet of net descent across its entirety.
The Descent 2 is all about speed and simplicity, with the race following roads that naturally flow downhill from reservoir to town. Expect sweeping descents along quiet upland roads and long runnable sections designed for road shoes. The course promises scenic views as you descend through varied landscapes, making it a treat for both eyes and legs.
This event caters to runners who enjoy fast courses and scenic routes, whether they are seasoned road racers looking for an adventure or trail enthusiasts seeking a fun challenge. With gravity on your side, the route does much of the work, allowing participants to focus solely on enjoying the descent.
On race day, registration takes place at Sowerby Bridge between 18:00 and 18:50 PM, followed by transportation up to Baitings Reservoir for a prompt start. Runners will then make their way back down to the finish line in town, with presentations scheduled for around 20:30 or once all participants have crossed.
All runners who complete The Descent 2 are rewarded with a medal upon finishing, included as part of your entry fee. For those interested in commemorative wear, t-shirts can be pre-ordered separately from the official event page.
Safety and support remain paramount at this RunAble event, featuring fully marked routes, staff assistance throughout, cut-off times to ensure everyone's safety, first aid coverage, and mandatory kit requirements based on weather conditions. Participants are responsible for their own transportation back up to Sowerby Bridge after crossing the finish line.
