Dartmoor Crossing & The Great Escape: A Journey Through Wilderness and Moorland Beauty
The Dartmoor Crossing invites runners to embark on an adventurous 33.5-mile (55km) journey across the rugged terrain of Dartmoor, starting from Belstone and finishing at Ivybridge Rugby Club. This challenging event features two major summits along its route, offering breathtaking views of the High Moor's wild beauty. With a total elevation gain of 1,119 meters and descent of 1,516 meters, runners will experience both steep ascents and long descents through picturesque moorland villages including Belstone, Postbridge, and Ivybridge.
The course is fully marked and marshalled with two aid stations providing essential supplies. Additionally, remote water stops ensure that participants remain hydrated throughout their journey. The event offers a time limit of 9.5 hours to complete the race, allowing runners ample opportunity to soak in the stunning scenery while pushing themselves through this ultra-distance challenge.
For those seeking a taste of Dartmoor without committing to the full distance, The Great Escape presents an exhilarating half-marathon covering 15.5 miles (25km). Starting from Princetown and following the final stretch of THE CROSSING route, participants will traverse open moorland and descend into Ivybridge via the Erme Valley canyons. This race includes two water stops strategically placed to accommodate the remote and challenging terrain.
Both events provide bespoke medals for all finishers and offer the option to purchase event t-shirts through SiEntries at any time before or after registration. A coach transfer service is available from Ivybridge Rugby Club to the start line, priced at £17 (increasing to £18 on January 1st, 2027).
Participants can also book camping facilities for Friday and Saturday nights near the event centre located at Ivybridge Rugby Club in Filham. The campsite offers a convenient base for runners looking to explore Dartmoor before or after their race, with food and drink available throughout Race Day.
