The Cape Clear Island Races

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Ireland's southernmost inhabited island, Cape Clear Island (Inis Cleire), The CAPE CLEAR ISLAND RACES offer runners an unforgettable trail running experience. This unique race takes place on August 28, 2027, and features both a half marathon and a 10km distance.
Cape Clear Island is more than just a destination; it's a living piece of Irish heritage where the Gaelic language thrives alongside traditional fishing and farming communities. Today, this tranquil island blends its rich past with modern ventures such as arts and crafts, lavender production, goat farming, and even distilling, known for its distinctive lavender gin.
The race routes wind through a network of hiking trails that crisscross the island, offering spectacular views of Roaringwater Bay and the iconic Fastnet Rock Lighthouse just 6km away. The landscape is dotted with lush fuchsia bushes along rarely-used lanes, creating an enchanting and varied terrain for runners to enjoy.
Participants have two transportation options: a chartered RaceBoat from Baltimore harbour that includes round-trip transport on race day or a non-raceboat option where participants must arrange their own travel. It's important to note that the scheduled ferry service will not get you onto Cape Clear Island in time for the start, so those choosing this route need to plan accordingly.
Provisional start times are set at 11:30am for the half marathon and 12:15pm for the 10km race. Half marathon runners should catch the first ferry from Baltimore harbour at 9am, while 10km participants can board at 10am.
This event also offers XCover insurance to provide peace of mind in case unforeseen circumstances prevent a participant's attendance on race day.
Join us for an unforgettable journey through one of Ireland’s most picturesque and culturally rich islands. The CAPE CLEAR ISLAND RACES await, promising stunning scenery, challenging terrain, and the unique opportunity to explore this enchanting corner of West Cork.
