The Bertman Run

The Bertman Run returns for its fifth year as a heartfelt tribute to the legacy of Bert Vicchio, who passed away from mantle cell lymphoma but lived with an unwavering passion for movement. Organized by his daughter Lianne Vicchio, this event aims to raise critical funds and awareness for Blood Cancer United while celebrating her father’s enduring spirit.
Set against the backdrop of Sacramento's Historic Folsom Station North Park and Ride, just a stone's throw from Practical Cycle on Leidesdorff Street near Folsom Boulevard, runners will follow an out-and-back course along the picturesque American River Bike Trail. The race offers three distances: 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon, each designed to honor Bertman’s love for active living.
Participants gather early at 6:55 AM on January 16th, 2027, to pick up their goodie bags filled with morning treats like donuts, coffee, bananas, muffins, tangerines, water, and Gatorade. The race starts promptly at 8:00 AM under the guidance of enthusiastic volunteers who keep the trail safe for all users.
The scenic course winds through serene landscapes along the American River Trail, where runners will encounter aid stations strategically placed to support those tackling longer distances. A turnaround point is set up near the 10K mark and another at the Half Marathon turn; however, there are no official rest stops on the shorter 5K route.
While the race start location lacks an official restroom facility, public facilities can be found in nearby businesses around Old Folsom or within the parking garage. Runners should plan accordingly as lines may form during peak times.
This event is more than a run; it’s a celebration of community and hope for those impacted by blood cancer. Registration on race day only is available from 6:55 AM at the park and ride lot. No official timing chips are provided, but times will be recorded manually or via app for all participants.
