Welcome to Wyresdale Park, where nature and tranquility come together for an unforgettable swimming experience. Nestled along the picturesque lake, this venue offers both beauty and safety, ensuring that every swimmer enjoys their time on the water. Upon arrival at The Jetty, you'll find a dedicated area equipped with storage boxes should it be raining or if you need to leave your belongings dry. A friendly member of staff will greet you, taking down your name and offering any necessary instructions for your visit. Tow floats are available to borrow here, adding an extra layer of safety for swimmers. Wetsuits can be hired by prior request at a cost of £10 but aren't kept on site, so it's best to arrange this in advance if you need one. During the summer months, participants have the opportunity to earn badges such as "My First Swim" or "My First Lap," while winter swimmers can aim for the "I Swam Through Winter" badge. Swimming circuits are marked with buoys during warmer weather, each circuit being roughly 400 meters. Four laps make up a mile and offer a great way to measure your progress. However, be cautious of blue buoys on the far side of the lake as they indicate shallow water used for fishing; avoid swimming between them and the shore. Wetsuits are optional but tow floats are compulsory here at Wyresdale Park. Brightly colored hats or bobble hats in winter can enhance visibility during your swim, ensuring safety is a top priority. Facilities include ample parking space near The Applestore Café on the left side of the venue. Toilets are located outside behind the café and there's an additional indoor option to the right of them. An overflow car park can be accessed by crossing a small bridge and turning left into a woodland footpath that leads directly to the lake. While there are no changing facilities available, it’s recommended you arrive in swimwear or change quickly at your vehicle before entering the water. Getting here is straightforward; from Preston via Gubberford Lane over Snowhill Lane will bring you straight to Wyresdale Park. Alternatively, those coming by bus can take Stagecoach 40 from Lancaster Station to Cabus Gubberford Lane.
