Nestled along serene waters, this picturesque venue offers both tranquility and challenge. Upon arrival at the jetty, you’ll be greeted by a friendly staff member who will take your name and provide any necessary instructions. Secure storage is available if needed—storage boxes are provided in case of rain or hooks for hanging clothing. Tow floats can be borrowed to aid swimmers during their journey across the lake. Wetsuits can also be hired, but they must be reserved beforehand at a cost of £10. The summer months bring opportunities to earn badges such as "My First Swim" and "My First Lap," while winter swimming enthusiasts can aim for the "I Swam Through Winter" badge. Safety is paramount; if you encounter difficulties during your swim, simply lie on your back, raise an arm, or shout for help—safety kayakers are always nearby to assist. Buoys mark circuits around the lake, each approximately 400 meters long, making it easy to track progress and measure distance. Swimmers should avoid areas between blue buoys along the shore as these indicate shallow ground used by anglers with fishing lines. Dress appropriately for your swim—wetsuits are optional but recommended if you prefer warmth in cooler weather. Brightly colored hats enhance visibility, especially during winter months when bobble hats may be more suitable. Facilities at Wyresdale Park include ample parking space and the Applestore Café on site where refreshments can be enjoyed post-swim or anytime throughout your visit. Toilets are conveniently located outside behind the café with additional indoor facilities available nearby. Changing areas are not provided, so please arrive in swimwear or change discreetly within your vehicle. Getting to Wyresdale Park is straightforward: - By Car: From Preston, take A6 and turn right onto Gubberford Lane over a bridge; proceed through the village and up Snowhill Lane towards Scorton. Alternatively, from Lancaster via A6, head left on Station Lane past Six Arches Caravan Park before turning right at Daisy Clough Nurseries. - By Bus: Stagecoach 40 runs between Preston Station and Cabus Gubberford Lane, taking about 45 minutes.
