Welcome to Wyresdale Park, where nature and tranquility come together for an unforgettable open-water swimming experience. Nestled along the serene lakefront, this picturesque venue offers a perfect setting for swimmers of all levels. Upon arrival at The Jetty, you'll find ample storage options for your belongings, including dry storage boxes in case of rain or hooks to hang items like towels and robes on the fence. A friendly staff member will greet you here, ready to assist with any instructions and provide tow floats if needed—these are essential safety equipment that must be used during the swim. Wetsuits can be hired for an additional fee (£10) but only by prior arrangement as they aren’t kept at the site. The jetty is compact, so it’s best not to fully change here; leave your wet gear behind and move on quickly to avoid congestion. Swimmers are encouraged to follow safety guidelines: if you encounter difficulties in the water, lie flat on your back, raise an arm for help, or use a tow float as support. The lake is marked with buoys during summer months, allowing swimmers to complete circuits of approximately 400 meters each (four laps equal one mile). Be cautious near blue buoy markers along the far shore, which indicate shallow water used by anglers and could pose hazards. Brightly colored swim caps are recommended for visibility, especially in winter when bobble hats can also be worn. Parking is available on-site with additional overflow spaces accessible via a woodland footpath leading to the lake. The Applestore Café offers refreshments nearby, along with outdoor toilets and indoor facilities inside the main building. For those traveling by car, detailed directions are provided: from Preston, take A6 and follow signs for Gubberford Lane; alternatively, exit M6 at J34 Lancaster (Langshaw lane) to reach Wyresdale Park more quickly. Bus services also connect via Stagecoach 40 from Preston Station. Join us on October 20, 2026, for an immersive day of swimming and scenic beauty at Wyresdale Park. Brimming with natural charm and safety measures in place, this event promises a memorable experience that celebrates the joy of open-water swimming amidst stunning surroundings.
