Welcome to Wyresdale Park, where nature and swimming come together for an unforgettable aquatic adventure. Nestled along picturesque Snowhill Lane near Scorton, this serene location offers both tranquility and excitement. Upon arrival at the park's jetty, you'll find a welcoming staff member ready to greet you and provide any necessary instructions. Here, storage boxes are available should it rain; hooks on the fence offer an alternative for hanging towels or robes while keeping your belongings dry. Tow floats can be borrowed right from this spot, adding an extra layer of safety during your swim. Wetsuits are optional but recommended in cooler weather to ensure comfort and warmth. If you need one, they must be reserved beforehand at a cost of £10 due to limited availability on-site. Brightly colored hats or bobble hats are suggested for better visibility, especially important when swimming through winter months. Swimming circuits around the lake measure approximately 400 meters each, with four laps equating to one mile. During summer, you can earn badges such as "My First Swim" and "My First Lap," while in colder seasons, participants aim to complete their "I Swam Through Winter" badge. For safety, swimmers are encouraged to lie on their back and raise an arm or use the tow float for support if they encounter difficulties; a safety kayaker will be nearby to assist. It's important to note that blue buoys mark shallow areas used by fishermen along the lake’s edge—avoid swimming between these markers and the shore. The water here is calm, offering a serene setting ideal for both beginners and experienced swimmers alike. Facilities at Wyresdale Park include ample parking space near the main entrance and an additional overflow lot accessible via Gubberford Lane after crossing a small bridge. Toilets are conveniently located behind the Applestore Café, with indoor facilities also available to the right of these restrooms. The café itself is situated on your left as you enter. Directions for those traveling by car from Preston involve taking the A6 and turning onto Gubberford Lane over a bridge; continue through Scorton village until reaching Snowhill Lane. For visitors coming from Lancaster, take Station Lane off the A6 towards Cabus before heading up Snowhill Lane via Six Arches Caravan Park. Public transport options are available with Stagecoach bus number 40, which departs from Preston and takes around 45 minutes to reach Gubberford Lane near Wyresdale Park.
