Sussex Downs Trail Run 2026

Nestled within the South Downs National Park’s rolling hills of Mid-Sussex lies the Sussex Downs Trail Run. This picturesque race invites runners to explore some of England's most stunning landscapes, with trails that wind through lush woodlands and reveal panoramic vistas of the countryside.
The event kicks off at Plumpton Racecourse, a conveniently located venue easily reached from nearby towns like Brighton, Haywards Heath, Lewes, and Burgess Hill as well as major highways such as the A27 and A23. Participants have three route options to choose from: a challenging 21km Half Marathon, a scenic 15km course, and a more manageable 10km run.
The journey begins with a gentle warm-up along a flat, tree-lined path for about 3.5 kilometers before the terrain shifts to include rewarding climbs up to the South Downs Way. Here runners are rewarded with breathtaking views of the Sussex countryside, including glimpses of Seven Sisters Country Park and distant sea horizons.
After this initial climb, the route meanders along sturdy trails that offer a mix of challenging ascents and descents before looping back towards Brighton. The trail then rejoins the South Downs Way for more captivating scenery as it winds through open fields dotted with wildflowers.
As runners near the end, they descend from the hilltop into a final flat 3km stretch leading directly to the finish line at Plumpton Racecourse, providing an exhilarating and satisfying conclusion to their journey.
