Spring Awakening Backyard Ultra invites runners of all levels to challenge themselves against the forces of light and dark on March 20, 2027. This unique event offers individual options for 6 hours (25 miles), 12 hours (50 miles), or a full 24-hour endurance test covering 100 miles. Participants in the relay can form teams up to eight members strong and strategize their pacing throughout the day. The race begins at sunrise, with each runner tackling a challenging 4.167-mile loop through Island Center Forest for exactly one hour before starting anew or facing elimination if they fail to return on time. The course is mostly trail (90%), offering double tracks, single paths, and gravel runs that wind through some of the most picturesque forests in the Northwest with an elevation gain of about 150 feet per loop. Logistics are set up for endurance racing enthusiasts: a fully stocked aid station at the start/finish area provides essential fluids, snacks, and meals throughout the day. Runners can camp out Friday night to prepare for sunrise on Saturday morning. The field behind O-Space serves as both the race hub and camping ground, complete with porta-potties and space for personal gear. Participants are encouraged to bring their own power sources, food, and water beyond what's provided at the aid station, ensuring they have everything needed for a successful run through this scenic and demanding course.

About Vashon
Learn more about the host city, Vashon.
Vashon is a census-designated place (CDP) in King County, Washington, United States. It covers an island alternately called Vashon Island or Vashon–Maury Island, the largest island in Puget Sound south of Admiralty Inlet. Before the construction of a tombolo built in 1913, Vashon Island and Maury Island were connected only during low tide; now they are considered a tied island.
