Southend Pier Marathon

Experience history and endurance on Southend Pier, where tradition meets challenge in one of Britain’s most unique marathon events. Set for March 13, 2027, this full marathon spans the entire length of the longest pleasure pier in the world, a historic structure that has weathered centuries of change and adversity.
Stretching an impressive 1.34 miles over the Thames Estuary, Southend Pier offers runners unparalleled views as they traverse its iconic wooden planks. The race celebrates not only athletic achievement but also the resilience and evolution of this beloved landmark through fires, wars, and economic challenges. With limited spots for just 100 participants, each runner will receive a distinctive medal marking their place in marathon history.
However, participating comes with an understanding that you are at the mercy of Britain’s unpredictable weather on race day. No cancellation insurance is available due to the tight schedule, meaning if conditions prove too harsh, the event may be called off without refunds for entrants. Despite this risk, runners will embark on a course that highlights the pier's storied past and scenic beauty.
Prepare yourself for an unforgettable journey along Southend Pier’s historic wooden planks, where every step takes you closer to completing one of the world’s most distinctive marathon experiences.
