South Pennine 24

The South Pennine 24 is an exhilarating long-distance challenge hosted by the South Pennine Long Distance Walkers Association (LDWA), offering walkers and runners an unforgettable experience through some of England's most stunning landscapes. Set for February 27, 2027, this event invites participants to traverse a rigorous 24-mile route across the Dark Peak and the South Pennine Moors.
Competitors will encounter diverse terrain that ranges from wild moorland to well-graded footpaths and bridleways, providing an immersive journey through nature. The ascent of over 3900 feet ensures not only scenic views but also a significant physical challenge for all participants. With stunning vistas at every turn, the South Pennine Moors offer both beauty and adventure.
Entry into this event is exclusive to LDWA members from October 10th until November 1st when general entries open. Membership offers discounted priority entry and access to valuable information about the route and preparation tips. The cost for an annual membership starts at just £15, providing benefits that extend beyond just race discounts.
The Dovestone Sailing Club in Greenfield serves as both headquarters and start/finish point. Participants are encouraged to car share due to limited parking on site (currently priced at £4.70 per vehicle). Registration opens from 7:45 AM until 9:00 AM, allowing for flexible start times based on individual pace. Slower walkers can depart as early as 8:00 AM while faster runners are advised to begin closer to the registration deadline.
Support along the route includes a hearty breakfast of drinks and pastries from 7:30 AM, with four strategically placed checkpoints offering food and drink throughout the day. The event concludes at Dovestone Sailing Club by 6 PM, ensuring all participants have ten hours to complete the course comfortably.
Upon finishing, every competitor receives an official certificate as a testament to their achievement. With a limit of just 150 entrants, this event promises a close-knit and supportive atmosphere for those looking to test themselves against nature's finest terrain.
All dogs are kindly asked not to join in this year’s event due to the challenging conditions and limited space at checkpoints.
