Snowdonia Half Marathon // Hanner Marathon Eryri Date: May 9, 2027 Prepare to tackle one of the UK's most challenging half marathons through the breathtaking landscapes of Snowdonia National Park. This event is not for the faint-hearted; it’s a grueling course designed to test even the toughest runners. Starting and finishing in Llanrwst—a picturesque town that hosted the World Trail Running Championships in 2013—the race winds its way through rugged mountain trails, hidden valleys, cascading rivers, serene lakes, and dense forests. The terrain is diverse and demanding, with steep ascents and descents that have earned it a reputation among runners for being both exhilarating and exhausting. The route has been meticulously crafted to offer not just a challenging run but an immersive experience of Snowdonia’s natural beauty. In 2016, the course was reconfigured to include more rugged terrain, eliminating sections on flat roads around Trefriw in favor of direct routes up to Llyn Geirionydd and over to Llyn Crafnant. The highlight is undoubtedly mile 11, where runners face a steep climb known as Forest Hill before descending back down towards Gwydyr Castle for the finish. Runners who complete this half marathon can expect more than just an achievement; they’ll receive a quality bespoke medal and technical T-shirt to commemorate their accomplishment. This year’s event promises enhanced support from local communities, ensuring that every runner enjoys not only the race but also the surrounding area. Race day begins early with Race HQ opening at 8:00 AM for number collection and gear drop-off. The start time is set for 10:00 AM, providing ample opportunity to park (at designated spots like Glasdir or Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy) and prepare before the race. Throughout the course, water stations are strategically placed every few miles, with additional support from medical staff stationed at key points. Runners must adhere to a strict pace guideline of 15 minutes per mile; failure to maintain this will result in disqualification after three miles. Post-race celebrations include award ceremonies for top finishers and age-group winners around midday. A variety of merchandise, including race T-shirts and hoodies, will be available at the event store starting from 8:00 AM. Join us on May 9th to experience the unparalleled beauty and challenge that Snowdonia Half Marathon offers. We look forward to welcoming you to this unforgettable run through one of Wales’ most stunning national parks.
