The Shonan International Marathon is a pioneer in sustainable racing practices. In 2025, it became the first major marathon globally to achieve zero waste from paper cups and plastic bottles at drink stations along its route. By reducing event waste by an impressive 76%, this initiative received near-unanimous support from participants who appreciated running on pristine courses free of litter.
To continue these efforts, runners are encouraged to bring their own hydration containers and refill them at the numerous aid stations scattered throughout the course. With over 200 such stations available along the marathon route, you can enjoy a clean race while contributing to environmental conservation.
