Run Forest Run

Set against the serene backdrop of Lake Sylvia State Park near Montesano, Washington, Run Forest Run invites trail enthusiasts to explore its rugged terrain on February 13, 2027. Participants can choose between the challenging 50K and the more moderate 25K distances. Both courses wind through a working forest owned by the City of Montesano, featuring double-track trails, single-track paths, and gravel roads. The 50K route doubles back on itself for an additional loop after crossing a four-and-a-half-hour cutoff at mid-race.
The course is known for its varied elevation changes—around 2,400 feet per loop—which include numerous short climbs through dense forest and recently clearcut areas. Winter conditions mean parts of the trail can be rough, rutted, or muddy, so runners should expect to get wet and dirty. Aid stations are strategically placed along both routes: one for the 25K at the halfway point and two for the 50K—one at the start/finish line and another near the turnaround.
The event emphasizes trail stewardship with strict rules against littering to preserve access to this beautiful location. Racers must bring their own cups due to a cupless policy, reflecting efforts to reduce waste. Post-race festivities will take place in the Legacy Pavilion where hot food, including vegan options, and a warm fire await runners and volunteers.
Registration is required well before race day as no on-site sign-ups are allowed by state park regulations. With its focus on community engagement and trail preservation, Run Forest Run offers an immersive experience for those who love pushing their limits in nature's embrace.
