Rothwell Cakeathon

Immerse yourself in a unique blend of nature, wildlife, and scenic beauty at Leeds Skelton Lake Services. This trail running adventure starts from an eco-friendly motorway service station off the M1 (J45), offering runners not just a race but also an opportunity to contribute to conservation efforts through donations made on behalf of each participant.
The course takes you into Rothwell Country Park, where woodland trails, riverside paths, and grassy fields await. As you navigate this varied terrain, one undulation rewards you with breathtaking views of Leeds City Centre—a moment that runners often describe as the highlight of their experience here.
With options for both walkers and runners across multiple distances—including a marathon, 20-mile race, 15-mile run, 10-mile event, and a shorter 5-mile option—this trail offers something for all levels. The generous 6.5-hour cut-off ensures that everyone has ample time to enjoy the course at their own pace.
Support along the way includes water stations every three miles or so, where you can refuel with snacks while enjoying the camaraderie of fellow runners and friendly marshals cheering you on from start to finish.
Upon crossing the line, expect a bespoke medal celebrating your achievement. The social atmosphere continues in the post-race area, where hot drinks await along with delicious cakes for everyone to enjoy as they celebrate their accomplishment together.
For safety reasons, large over-ear headphones are not permitted during the race; however, bone-conducting headphones or using one earbud at a time is allowed if necessary. Participants should remain vigilant around unmarshalled road crossings throughout the course.
The event venue offers free parking and encourages car sharing to reduce environmental impact further. Registration opens early with start times ranging from 08:30 for longer distances down to 09:30 for shorter events, allowing ample time to park and prepare before setting out on your adventure.
