Dive into the rugged beauty of Montana's Dutchman Creek Events for an unforgettable weekend of endurance racing. The ROO Race Series returns with a blend of challenging distances and scenic terrain set against the backdrop of a private cattle ranch. Participants can look forward to two days packed with diverse race options designed to test their grit.
Friday: A Day of Variety
The Friday races offer four distinct distance choices, each providing unique challenges on varied terrains. The 50K, the longest traditional-distance option, features a multi-loop course that winds through ranch roads and single-track paths, offering aid at central hubs along the way. For those seeking an intermediate challenge, the 25K race offers similar rugged terrain but in a slightly shorter format with staffed support points.
For runners looking for a more compact adventure, there's the 10K, which provides a taste of ROO’s scenic routes while still being manageable within a single day. The weekend also includes the Lil Bucks Mile (ages 12 & under), an introductory race aimed at bringing young athletes into the running community.
Each course is meticulously marked, and participants will receive official maps and GPX files ahead of time to prepare for their adventure. Aid stations are strategically placed along all Friday courses, offering essential hydration and nutrition support throughout the day.
Saturday: ROO Backyard Ultra
The Saturday event takes endurance racing to a whole new level with the ROO Backyard Ultra: Last One Standing. This self-supported race follows a 4.17-mile loop that competitors must complete within each hour interval until only one runner remains standing. Each lap is an independent challenge, and runners are expected to manage their own gear, nutrition, hydration, lighting, and overall strategy.
The course features staffed support points but emphasizes the importance of self-reliance for participants throughout this grueling yet rewarding event. The race continues around the clock until one competitor can still complete another loop within the hour window.
Race Weekend Experience
Competitors have the option to participate in both Friday's races and Saturday’s Backyard Ultra, making it a weekend-long celebration of endurance running. Detailed schedules, course maps, mandatory gear lists, parking instructions, check-in procedures, and race-day rules will be communicated directly to registered participants ahead of time.
Registration is available on a first-come, first-served basis with no refunds offered due to the nature of outdoor events. By signing up, runners commit themselves fully to this unique experience in Montana’s stunning landscape.
