Ricky's Race 2027

Ricky's Race unfolds on August 12, 2027, with runners beginning their journey through a serene forest trail. The initial flat section offers a brief respite before the first ascent challenges them with tree roots and uneven terrain. As the course transitions to an ever-climbing lane, more than a mile of steep elevation gain tests lung capacity and resolve. A welcome descent follows, weaving through wooden trails that feature technical surfaces and muddy sections where runners must decide between leaping over or squelching through.
The route retraces part of its path before sending competitors up another ascent into the woods again. Emerging near South Darley brings a sense of civilization closer but also presents Ricky's Race signature sting: a final cruel ascent to Oker Trig Point, known for its punishing 1:3 gradient. A strategically placed photographer here captures runners' transformation from pained expressions to beaming athletes.
From this vantage point, stunning views across the village and up and down the valley await, along with an encouraging shout of "it's all downhill now," though it may not entirely reflect reality. The course continues along the skyline towards the famous Oker Tree before runners embark on a final technical descent where gravity assists their progress to the finish line.
Runners will cross the stile for one last sprint across the field, aiming to secure that coveted place at the end of an exhilarating and challenging race day.
