Nestled within the breathtaking landscapes of Spain's Picos de Europa and Montañas de Riaño y Mampodre Regional Parks, the RIAÑO TRAIL RUN offers runners an unforgettable adventure through some of Europe’s most stunning natural scenery. This multi-stage mountain race is designed for trail running enthusiasts who seek a challenge that combines breathtaking views with technical terrain. Participants have three options to choose from: the full 3xTrail Run covering all stages, the two-day Riaño 2xTrail Run, and those looking for a single day of adventure can opt for the one-stage event. Each stage is meticulously crafted to showcase different facets of this diverse region while testing runners' endurance and technical skills. The journey begins on Friday morning with Stage 1, which starts at Oseja de Sajambre and winds its way through rugged paths to Caín de Valdeón over a distance of 36.3 kilometers. This stage sets the tone for what lies ahead, featuring steep ascents and descents that challenge even seasoned runners. Saturday's second stage departs from Valverde de la Sierra at 9:00 AM and covers a more manageable but equally scenic route back to the same town over 21.5 kilometers. This stage offers varied terrain with stretches of forest trails, rocky paths, and stunning vistas that highlight the park’s natural beauty. The final push comes on Sunday morning as runners tackle Stage 3 from Riaño, covering 26.2 kilometers in a semi-autonomous format where participants must adhere to strict time limits for completion. This stage is particularly demanding with its winding trails through mountainous terrain and offers one last chance to take in the panoramic views before crossing the finish line. Each stage presents unique challenges that require careful planning and pacing, making RIAÑO TRAIL RUN not just a race but an experience that celebrates both personal achievement and the beauty of nature. As part of the UTMB qualification series, this event attracts runners from around the world who are eager to test their limits in some of Spain’s most spectacular landscapes. Riaño Trail Run is more than just a competition; it's an invitation to explore the wild beauty of these mountainous parks and connect with fellow trail enthusiasts. Whether you're aiming for top honors or simply enjoying the journey, this race promises memories that will last long after your feet hit the ground in Riaño. The event’s commitment to sustainability is evident throughout its organization, ensuring minimal impact on the delicate ecosystems of these protected areas while providing a platform for runners and nature lovers alike.
