Ready to Go Orienteering 2026

Orienteering Ireland and Meath Local Sports Partnership are excited to present an engaging two-part orienteering program tailored for primary and secondary schools. The initiative begins with the "Ready to Go Orienteering" (RTGO) training session on November 17, designed specifically for teachers looking to introduce this exciting sport in their classrooms.
On that day, educators will gather at St Paul's National School in Navan from 9am until 2:30pm. The workshop offers hands-on experience and essential knowledge about map reading, route planning, navigation skills, all delivered in a fun and inclusive manner. Teachers will leave equipped with the tools to create engaging orienteering activities for their students.
The program culminates in an outdoor event at Blackwater Park later in February, where teachers can watch their students apply what they've learned on a real-life course filled with checkpoints across the park's scenic terrain. This practical experience fosters teamwork and problem-solving skills while encouraging physical activity and confidence among young participants.
For just €50 per school, registrants receive an Orienteering Starter Pack that includes flags, punches, resource cards, and a booklet to help kickstart their orienteering journey. Spaces are limited, so early registration is advised for both the training session and the park event.
This comprehensive program aims to make orienteering accessible and enjoyable for all students while empowering teachers with the necessary skills to facilitate these activities effectively within their schools' physical education and outdoor programs.
