Set against the stunning backdrop of the Yorkshire Dales, the Skipton Ultra Trail offers runners an unforgettable journey through some of England's most picturesque landscapes. The race starts from the charming market town of Skipton, known affectionately as "Sheep Town" due to its historical roots in livestock trading. Competitors will traverse a varied and challenging terrain that includes sections along the Pennine Way and Dales Way. Starting with an initial westward journey towards Pinhaw Beacon near Thornton in Craven, participants then continue on the scenic route through Gargrave and Malham Tarn before heading to Arncliffe. The trail continues via Starbotton onto Kettlewell and Grassington, culminating at Burnsall before returning to Skipton. Four distances are available for runners: 13 miles (20K), 20 miles, 34 miles, and a grueling 50-mile route that also includes checkpoint drop bags. The elevation profiles range from a challenging climb of 1500 feet up to an arduous ascent of over 7600 feet for the longest distance. Registration takes place at Champions Church on Carleton Road in Skipton, where runners will receive their trackers and kit instructions. All ultramarathon participants are provided with tracking devices that can be shared online with friends and family throughout the race to track progress and safety. Trail race (half marathon and 20-mile) runners have the option of hiring a tracker for £15. The event features several checkpoints along the route, each offering essential supplies such as water, energy bars, crisps, vegan snacks, and gluten-free options. Key CPs include Clogger Lane, Gargrave, Malham Tarn, Kettlewell, Burnsall, with all finishers receiving a medal and an event t-shirt upon completion. Safety is paramount at the Skipton Ultra Trail; race officials will conduct random kit checks for compliance to ensure participant safety. The final route details are provided via email one week before the race date, allowing runners time to prepare accordingly. On August 14, 2027, join fellow trail enthusiasts and immerse yourself in this unique blend of history, natural beauty, and athletic challenge as you run through Yorkshire's iconic landscapes.
