Join Phoenix Running Hampshire for the whimsical and engaging "Whingeathon" on January 30, 2027. This unique event invites runners to embrace all aspects of running that often cause grumbles—be it extreme weather conditions or challenging terrain—and celebrate them along The Itchen Way in Winchester.
The course is professionally measured with a Road Permit secured for the day, ensuring participants can focus on their run without worrying about muddy shoes. Choose from one out-and-back lap covering 2.62 miles to as many laps as you wish within the 7-hour window. Five laps will complete a half marathon distance, ten laps make up a full marathon, and eleven or more laps qualify for an ultra-distance event.
The route itself is picturesque, taking runners over the Hockley Viaduct along The Itchen Way—a smooth surface that's perfect for any pace. Whether you're aiming to set a personal best time with your GPS watch in hand or simply enjoy the scenic beauty and flexibility of this course, there’s something here for every runner.
The event welcomes all abilities, from casual joggers who might complete just one lap to seasoned runners looking to push their limits by seeing how far they can go within seven hours. All finishers will receive a bespoke finisher's medal celebrating their achievement.
Aid stations along the route are known for offering generous portions of sweet and savory treats, with a special emphasis on potatoes—sure to keep you fueled throughout your run. Vegan options are also plentiful, ensuring everyone finds something they love.
Start times are flexible, allowing participants to begin running anytime from 08:00 until 13:00. The course will close at 15:00, providing ample time for runners of all paces and distances. This unique format allows you the freedom to decide on your distance as you go, making it easy to adjust based on how you feel during the event.
Parking is available in Garnier Road Car Park with a short walk to St. Catherine's Park & Ride if needed. The postcode SO23 9NP will guide you directly to East Winchester Park & Ride (St. Catherine’s), where parking charges apply at £3.50 for all day or £1.80 up to three hours, payable via Ringo with the location code 2547.
