Pembrokeshire Coast Triathlon: A Challenging Coastal Course for Athletes of All Levels
On June 20, 2027, the Pembrokeshire Coast Triathlon will return to Broad Haven, a picturesque stretch of golden sand within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. This event offers three disciplines — full-distance triathlon (1.5km swim, 42km bike, and 10km run), Aquabike (swim and bike only), or relay options for teams of two to three members.
The race is known for its scenic coastal setting and challenging terrain. The open water swim takes place in the calm waters off Broad Haven's shoreline, with a maximum distance of 200 meters from shore. Swimmers can expect temperatures around 14-16°C on race day, making wetsuits compulsory.
The bike course features rolling Pembrokeshire lanes, climbing over 400m through picturesque countryside and fast flat sections near Haverfordwest. This portion of the route remains open to traffic, so participants must adhere strictly to road rules throughout their ride.
Runners will start with an initial climb along the scenic Pembrokeshire Coast Path before heading inland for a quieter stretch back towards Broad Haven's seafront finish line. The course offers sweeping views over St Bride’s Bay and is designed to test endurance while providing stunning coastal scenery.
This triathlon has historically been part of the Welsh Triathlon Super Series, broadcast on S4C, and often hosts the Welsh Standard Distance Championships. Competitors can expect a competitive field alongside first-time participants eager to experience this challenging course.
Registration for the event includes a Tyvek race number, silicone swim cap, electronic chip timing, finisher's medal, prizes across various age categories, dedicated awards for Aquabike competitors and relay teams, as well as complimentary electronic photos from the day’s events. Relay teams are encouraged with designated changeover areas set up in transition zones.
Participants must be at least 17 years old by December 31, 2027, hold British Triathlon membership or purchase a Race Pass (or provide third-party liability insurance for overseas residents). The event is capped at 400 competitors and entries close on June 9th or when the field fills.
With medical support throughout and strict adherence to safety protocols under British Triathlon rules, this race offers both seasoned athletes and newcomers an unforgettable coastal experience.
