Ouachita Switchbacks, set for January 16th with an early start option beginning at dawn, offers runners one of Oklahoma's most challenging and scenic ultra races. Participants will face rugged terrain featuring steep climbs and descents along the Ouachita Mountains' winding trails. The race starts and finishes in a remote area near Pashubee Trailhead, where no facilities are available, adding to the adventurous spirit of the event. Runners can expect technical footing throughout the 50K or half-distance 25K courses, with significant elevation changes that test both endurance and agility. Race day packet pickup is conveniently offered on Friday afternoon from 1 pm until late evening when campers retire for sleep around 9 or 10 pm at Pashubee Trailhead. Early morning pick up between 6:30 am to 7:30 am on race day is also an option. All participants will receive a hoodie, while finishers can look forward to commemorative mugs and additional trapper hats for those completing the full 50K distance. In case of inclement weather making travel hazardous, the event may be postponed until the following Saturday with no refunds or rescheduling options beyond that date. For detailed course descriptions, driving directions, and other inquiries, visit ouachitaswitchbacks.com or contact the race director directly for assistance. This race is not only a test of physical prowess but also an opportunity to embrace nature's raw beauty in one of Oklahoma’s most captivating landscapes. The Ouachita Switchbacks promises an unforgettable experience for trail runners seeking both challenge and reward on its demanding yet picturesque routes.
