The North Leeds Skyline Ultra Trail Race is set to take place on June 5, 2027, offering runners three distinct challenges across the scenic landscapes of Otley and its surrounding countryside. Participants can choose from the grueling 51km ultra trail (approximately 30 miles), a more manageable yet challenging 25km super trail (around 15 miles), or the shorter but equally demanding 16km trail run. The event begins at Station Top, East Chevin Road in Otley, opposite Wharfedale Farmers Market. The terrain is primarily public footpaths and trails that wind through picturesque countryside, providing runners with a mix of rolling hills, rugged paths, and breathtaking views. For the ultra distance, expect an elevation gain of 1000 meters (3280 feet) over nine hours, while the super trail offers around 650 meters (2100 feet) in ascent within six hours. The shorter route features a climb of about 500 meters (1640 feet), also with a time limit of six hours. Registration for all distances starts at 8:00 AM, and the event kicks off promptly at 9:00 AM for the ultra trail runners followed by the super trail and shorter route starting an hour later. All participants are required to carry essential items such as water containers, mobile phones with GPS files loaded, waterproof jackets, appropriate footwear, and a map of the course provided during registration. Navigation is entirely on your own; while pink markers will line parts of the trails, it's recommended that runners familiarize themselves with GPX tracks beforehand. The race also includes several manned checkpoints along the way where water and snacks are available at key locations like Bank Top Farm and Shadwell. Post-race, participants can look forward to a celebratory atmosphere as they cross the finish line back at Station Top in Otley. Prizes will be awarded based on performance times for both male and female categories across all distances, with course records currently held by Stephen Kirk (50km) and Rachel Sykes (50km), Alfie Drake (25km) and Angeline Dresser (25km). Parking is available at Station Top in Otley, and the event HQ offers portaloos for convenience. Runners are advised to review entry requirements before signing up to ensure they're prepared for this challenging yet rewarding experience. Join us on June 5th as we celebrate endurance and camaraderie amidst some of Yorkshire's most beautiful landscapes!
