NAV4 Lakes Mountain 40

Spring arrives with the LM40 Ultra, an exhilarating trail run through some of England's most stunning mountain terrain. This challenging yet rewarding course is inspired by the iconic Tour de Helvellyn but tailored for early spring conditions, offering a unique twist on its famous route.
The race begins at Askham Community Centre and spans just under 40 miles with several thousand feet of ascent. Participants will traverse rugged trails that wind through the heart of the Lake District National Park, ascending to the summits of Helvellyn and High Street before descending into Patterdale via Angle Tarn. The course then loops back up to Grisedale Tarn for a steep climb to Dollywaggon Pike and another ascent to Helvellyn itself.
Runners will experience varied terrain, from runnable trails down to Patterdale to the technical ascents of Swirral Edge or Striding Edge if conditions permit. The route offers breathtaking views at every turn, making it not just a test of endurance but also an immersive journey through some of Britain's most beautiful landscapes.
The race starts early in the morning at 8:00 AM, providing ample daylight for runners to complete their challenge within reasonable hours. While there is no formal cut-off point en route, participants have the option to take a shorter loop that still delivers a full ultra-distance experience by heading directly from Patterdale to Place Fell.
Upon reaching the finish line at Askham Community Centre, runners will be greeted with warm hospitality and a welcome area stocked with hot and cold drinks. The highlight of this event is undoubtedly the famous NAV4 Soup+, along with traybakes for recovery. Campervans are also welcomed overnight before or after the race, offering an additional £10 fee if staying in town.

This includes waterproofs, thermal layers, gloves and hats, headlamps, maps, compasses, survival bags, whistles, and plenty of food and water.
