Naked Bavarian

The Naked Bavarian is an ultra-trail run that strips away the frills to offer runners a straightforward, affordable experience at Blue Marsh Lake near Leesport, Pennsylvania. This race focuses on providing a challenging yet enjoyable course with minimal distractions from typical racing extravaganzas like expensive swag and high entertainment costs.
Participants can choose between two distances: 20 miles or 40 miles. The entry fees are set to be budget-friendly at $39 for the shorter distance and $49 for the longer one, with slight increases on race day if spots remain available. Race-day registration is possible but only in cash form.
The event takes place along the picturesque trails of Blue Marsh Lake, offering a mix of single-track paths (80%) and gravel roads (20%). The course features gentle elevation changes that add up to approximately 2000 feet for the 20-mile route and around 4000 feet for the full marathon distance. While the terrain is generally manageable by trail running standards, winter conditions can introduce additional challenges such as snow cover or icy patches.
Aid stations are strategically placed every few miles along both routes to ensure runners stay hydrated and fueled throughout their journey. These stops provide Gatorade and water alongside basic snacks for energy replenishment. Runners are encouraged to bring personal supplies like gels if they rely on them, given that the course's aid station offerings cater primarily to general hydration needs.
The race is designed with a no-frills approach in mind while still ensuring essential amenities such as medical support are available at each aid station. Bib timing will be used for accurate tracking of runners' progress without relying on high-tech gadgets or elaborate systems.
Following the event, participants can look forward to a casual post-race party where awards are presented immediately upon crossing the finish line. A chef and pastry chef provide refreshments, creating an inviting atmosphere that celebrates each runner's achievement in style.
