Mount Disappointment Mountain Race
About the event
The Mt. Disappointment Mountain Race offers an exhilarating trail challenge deep within the Angeles National Forest, starting near the historic Mt. Wilson Observatory. Runners can opt for either the 25K course with its steep climbs and scenic ridge lines, or push their limits on the 50K ultra, which features rugged singletrack trails and breathtaking views from high saddles like Markum.
The shorter 25K route begins with a formidable climb that rewards runners with sweeping vistas as they ascend toward Mt. Disappointment before looping through diverse forest paths. The longer 50K course extends further into the wilderness, taking competitors on historic trails such as Gabrielino and Colby Canyon, culminating in an unforgettable ascent up the Kenyon Devore Trail to reach the iconic Mt. Wilson Observatory.
Both courses are marked by relentless climbs and technical descents that test both physical strength and mountain navigation skills. Aid stations along the way ensure runners stay fueled for this demanding adventure amidst towering peaks and shaded canyons, making it a favorite among seasoned trail enthusiasts in Southern California.
