On November 8, 2026, MEGAwalk celebrates its 18th year as one of Hawke’s Bay's beloved community events. This annual gathering brings together walkers of all ages and abilities to enjoy the region’s stunning landscapes while supporting The Acorn Project, a local charity dedicated to helping young people aged 12–24 living with cancer. Participants can choose from four walk distances: the Mitre 10 MEGA 23km run or walk starting at Haumoana Domain Reserve; the ANZ 15km event beginning at Farndon Park Domain; the Harcourts 5km route that starts on Marine Parade in Napier; and the Langley Twigg Law 3km walk, also along the coast. Each course offers scenic views of riverside trails, coastal paths, and historic landmarks. All walkers receive a MEGAwalk branded hi-vis vest upon registration and a One NZ finisher medal at the finish line for those aged five years and older. Refreshments are available throughout the routes, with water stops strategically placed to ensure participants stay hydrated during their journey. The event culminates in an energetic celebration at Te Karaka Reserve (Perfume Point), featuring face painting, balloon twisting, games, music, and a variety of treats for everyone involved. The day is filled with fun activities like the Best Fancy Dress competition and Paw Parade for dog lovers, making it an enjoyable experience for all. MEGAwalk not only raises funds but also fosters community spirit by encouraging families to join in on this special day, creating memories that last a lifetime while supporting those who need it most.

About Hastings
Learn more about the host city, Hastings.
Hastings is a city in Hawke's Bay, on the east coast of the North Island of New Zealand. It is one of two cities in Hawke's Bay, the other being nearby Napier. It was heavily damaged in the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake, but because there were no fires much of it survived and is still visible in the city's downtown architecture. This contributed to the damage it did suffer makes Hastings the 'jewel' in the crown of the 'Napier' earthquake. This is mixed with Art Deco. Hastings has in the past been known as being an unattractive place to visit, but with the council's push for central business district redevelopment the city is returning to its previous splendour. It is the food-producing capital of New Zealand and has many different types of food. Its cuisine is unrivalled anywhere else. It also receives 2200 hours of sunshine a year, making it one of the sunniest places in New Zealand.
