Hawkes Bay Primary &Intermediate Schools Triathlon Championships
About the Event
Welcome to the Triathlon Hawkes Bay Primary and Intermediate Schools Triathlon, taking place on November 23, 2026. Students from various schools will gather at the vibrant Hawkes Bay Regional Aquatic Centre and Mitre 10 Sports Park Netball Courts for a day filled with excitement and camaraderie. Registration begins promptly at 8:45 AM, followed by the first event starting at 9:30 AM. Each school is assigned a bag containing transponders and bibs, to be collected by one representative who will manage them throughout the race. Participants are encouraged to return any unused equipment if someone from their team cannot attend due to unforeseen circumstances. The day kicks off with an engaging swim at the HB Regional Aquatic Centre. Year 5 students complete two lengths (100 meters), while Years 7 and 8 tackle four lengths (200 meters). Safety is paramount, with five lifeguards on duty and flotation devices available for those who need them. After exiting the pool, athletes transition to their bikes at Mitre 10 Sports Park. Year 5 and 6 students cycle one lap around a limestone track in an anticlockwise direction, while Years 7 and 8 complete two laps. Cyclists must wear helmets and safety vests provided by their schools. Marshals ensure smooth transitions and guide participants along the course. For team events, swimmers tag their cycling teammates who then proceed to mount their bikes at designated areas before embarking on their lap(s). Upon returning, cyclists dismount and transition to runners for a final leg around the park perimeter. Year 5 and 6 students run one lap, while Years 7 and 8 complete two laps. Parents are asked to respect boundaries and maintain clear lines of sight for participants at all times. Spectators can enjoy coffee from Stags Café in the pool complex area. A prize ceremony will follow around noon or shortly after the last participant finishes, with live results available via TriHB's Facebook page and website. Join us for a day celebrating youth sportsmanship and athletic prowess!

About Hastings
Learn more about the host city, Hastings.
Hastings is a city in Hawke's Bay, on the east coast of the North Island of New Zealand. It is one of two cities in Hawke's Bay, the other being nearby Napier. It was heavily damaged in the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake, but because there were no fires much of it survived and is still visible in the city's downtown architecture. This contributed to the damage it did suffer makes Hastings the 'jewel' in the crown of the 'Napier' earthquake. This is mixed with Art Deco. Hastings has in the past been known as being an unattractive place to visit, but with the council's push for central business district redevelopment the city is returning to its previous splendour. It is the food-producing capital of New Zealand and has many different types of food. Its cuisine is unrivalled anywhere else. It also receives 2200 hours of sunshine a year, making it one of the sunniest places in New Zealand.
