Experience an exhilarating mixed-terrain adventure at the Grasshopper Classic, set to take place on January 31, 2027. This year marks a fresh course layout that promises challenging climbs and thrilling descents through NorCal's scenic terrain. Riders will embark on two distinct courses, both featuring over 95% dirt and gravel roads exclusively opened for this event by Mendocino Redwood Company. The journey begins at Orr Springs Road where participants stage before the separate starts based on categories. The long course covers a total distance of approximately 40 miles with significant elevation gains. It commences with an initial climb along Masonite Road, ascending 1,950 feet over 13 miles before descending sharply to Wohly’s Pass via Low Gap Road. After reaching the pass, riders will head west for about 10 miles and then ascend Sawyer Creek Road by another 870 feet in just under five miles. The route continues along a dirt road that eventually connects back with Low Gap Road for six miles before returning to Masonite Road all the way to the finish line. The short course, on the other hand, is around half as long at about 20 miles and includes the initial climb and descent from Masonite Road but cuts off after reaching Wohly’s Pass. Riders then head back along Masonite Road for a thrilling return trip to the finish line. Registration fees vary depending on when you sign up: Early Bird (September 30 - November 29): $155, Regular (November 30 - January 16): $170, Late (January 17 - January 31): $185. Day-of registration is available for an additional fee of $20 on top of the standard rate if spots remain. Registration opens November 1st, 2025 and closes January 22nd, 2026 at 9pm PST. Participants can also transfer their registrations to another rider until January 22nd at a cost of $10 online or $20 on the day itself if spots are still available. For an enhanced registration experience, consider creating a Movemint account which allows for easy management and tracking of your events as well as integration with Strava.
