Lost Sierra Endurance Race

Lost Sierra Endurance Race, scheduled for July 23–24, 2027, invites trail runners to explore the breathtaking beauty and rugged terrain of California's northern Sierra Nevada. This year’s edition offers four distinct races: Summit VK+, a grueling vertical climb; 100K Ultra, an out-and-back course through remote wilderness; 50K Point-to-Point, which traverses stunning landscapes from Plumas-Eureka State Park to Downieville; and the more accessible yet scenic 25K Loop around Downieville.
The Summit VK+, kicking off on Friday, July 23, challenges runners with a steep ascent of over 4,000 feet in just seven miles. Starting at Sierra City, participants climb up to the historic Fire Lookout atop the Sierra Buttes for panoramic views before descending via shuttle back down to Sierra City.
The flagship event is the 100K Ultra on Saturday and Sunday, July 23–24, which follows a route through legendary trails like Third Divide and Pacific Crest Trail. This rugged out-and-back journey from Downieville up towards Plumas-Eureka State Park and then back again offers runners thousands of feet in elevation gain over dense forests, granite ridges, and mountain lakes.
For those seeking a more focused adventure within the weekend’s offerings, the 50K Point-to-Point race starts at Plumas-Eureka State Park near Blairsden. Runners will be shuttled to start from Downieville for an early morning departure. The course winds through varied terrain before finishing back in historic Downieville.
The 25K Loop provides a more approachable yet rewarding experience, starting and ending in the heart of Downieville. This route follows the First, Second, and Third Divide Trails, offering runners a taste of the region’s beauty without tackling its most extreme challenges.
All races feature well-placed aid stations with essential supplies along the way. The 100K Ultra requires participants to carry specific mandatory items such as headlamps for night running, space blankets for emergencies, and water bottles due to remote areas on the course. Pacers are allowed at designated points after mile 30.
The weekend concludes with a celebratory post-race party in Downieville, where runners can unwind and reflect on their incredible journey through one of California’s most stunning landscapes.
