Leeds City Centre hosts a picturesque running event along the tranquil Leeds–Liverpool Canal, starting at Granary Wharf. Runners of all levels will enjoy this flat out-and-back route that follows the canal towpath through Kirkstall and beyond. The serene setting offers beautiful views without traffic interference, making it an ideal choice for both beginners seeking a scenic experience and seasoned athletes aiming to achieve personal bests on fast terrain. Aid stations are strategically placed every three miles along the course, providing runners with essential hydration and snacks throughout their journey. These well-supported checkpoints ensure that participants remain energized as they navigate the smooth towpath. Upon crossing the finish line, all runners will receive a bespoke medal alongside various treats to celebrate their accomplishment. The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and adheres to UKA rules for safety and fairness. Registration takes place at Granary Wharf near Leeds Station, where toilet facilities are also available. Participants should arrive early—registration opens from 7:15 am—to park in nearby city centre car parks and complete their check-in process. Runners can choose between several distance options: - The 10K race begins at 10:00am. - Both the 10 Miler and the 20 Miler (two laps of a 10-mile course) start at 8:30 am. - The Half Marathon kicks off at 9:00 am, while the full Marathon (four half marathons in total) starts as early as 8:15 am. - Lastly, an Ultra Marathon featuring two half marathon laps and a concluding 10K race begins at 8:30 am. To promote environmental sustainability, runners are encouraged to bring their own reusable bottles or cups for the cup-less event. Large over-ear headphones are not permitted due to safety concerns; however, bone conduction headphones or single ear use is allowed. For more detailed information and updates, participants can visit our FAQ section or join the "Grim Up North Chat" Facebook group. Transfers and deferrals must be managed through our website up until 7 days before the event date. Participants are reminded to inform nearby marshals if they need assistance during the race.
