Leaden Boot Challenge

The Leaden Boot Challenge is an ambitious 26.2-mile walk/run through the picturesque White Peak village of Alstonefield, set against the backdrop of the Staffordshire Moorlands and Derbyshire Dales. This challenging yet rewarding journey begins at the Village Hall in Alstonefield on May 23, 2027, with participants aiming to complete it within a maximum time frame of twelve hours.
The route weaves through lesser-known trails and scenic spots like Milldale, Baley Hill, Nabs Dale, Ilam Rock, and Ecton Hill. The course features significant elevation changes, including climbs up Bunster Hill and Air Cottage, as well as descents into the valleys below. Walkers will also traverse historic landmarks such as Ilam Hall, Musden Woods, Slade House Farm, Throwley Hall, Wetton Mill, Hartington, Beresford Dale, and Narrow Dale.
Support is abundant along the way with six manned checkpoints spaced approximately every four miles. Each checkpoint offers water, squash, snacks, first aid facilities, and mobile communications to ensure participants' safety and comfort throughout their journey. Hot breakfast rolls are available at the start for an early morning energy boost.
Upon completion of this grueling yet scenic route, finishers will be greeted with locally made hot food and cakes at the Memorial Hall in Alstonefield. All participants who cross the finish line within the allotted time frame receive certificates and cloth badges as tokens of their achievement. The event not only celebrates perseverance but also supports local good causes, having raised approximately £70,000 to date for various community initiatives.
The Leaden Boot Challenge is open to both walkers and runners who are up for a day filled with stunning landscapes and challenging terrain.
