Lakeland Paws: Whinlatter Tails

Nestled within the heart of Whinlatter Forest, our February race promises an exhilarating experience for both runners and their canine companions. Although we initially planned to take you along the undulating South side route, any necessary adjustments will be made due to ongoing forest maintenance work. However, rest assured that this scenic location remains unchanged.
The event kicks off at 9am with a staggered start system designed to provide each athlete ample space and safety for their dogs during the initial moments of the race. The course itself is a blend of forest roads and trails, offering less technical terrain compared to our Seat How route, making it suitable for runners bringing up to two dogs.
Two distance options are available: the longer 10k option with an elevation gain of 400 meters, providing a challenging yet rewarding experience; and a shorter 5K variant that splits off from the main course at around halfway, featuring just 200 meters of ascent. This latter route is ideal for beginners or those looking to ease into the event.
Competitors can enjoy chip timing as well as clearly marked trails throughout their run. For added convenience, detailed GPX files are available for download prior to race day, allowing runners to familiarize themselves with the course ahead of time and plan accordingly.
