LAKE DISTRICT DUATHLONS - GRASMERE

Lake District Duathlons, set to return on March 21st, 2027, offer runners and cyclists the chance to explore the stunning beauty of Grasmere Village. Nestled alongside serene Grasmere Lake, this picturesque location is framed by majestic fells and mountains, a setting that inspired poet William Wordsworth's famous description as "the most loveliest spot that man hath found."
Participants can choose between two duathlon distances: Sprint (Short) or Standard, each offering unique challenges and breathtaking views. The Sprint Duathlon features a 5km run around Grasmere Village followed by a scenic cycle ride to Elterwater covering 20 kilometers before concluding with another 2.5km run back in the village. For those seeking more distance, the Standard Duathlon includes a 10km initial run, a longer cycling leg of 40 kilometers through Hawkshead and Coniston, and finishes with a final 5km run.
The event also hosts standalone 5km and 10km trail runs for runners who prefer to focus solely on footpaths and trails. Both duathlon routes are meticulously planned to showcase the region's natural beauty while providing an engaging course that challenges athletes of all levels.
Transition takes place at The Showfield, Stock Lane in Grasmere, offering a secure area with bike racking spots corresponding to each participant’s race number for easy identification. Cyclists must ensure their helmet is visible and attach their bike numbers before entering the transition zone. Small bags or boxes are permitted inside the designated space.
The event kicks off at 9:00am for the Standard Duathlon, followed by the Sprint (Short) starting at 9:15am. Timing will be provided by Timing Up North with live chip timing to accurately capture every participant’s performance throughout the race day.
Upon crossing the finish line, all participants are greeted with Wild Deer merchandise and a commemorative event medal. Refreshments including drinks and snacks await athletes post-race, ensuring everyone can enjoy the scenery while rehydrating after their efforts.
