Low and High Rigg Galoppen

Embark on an exhilarating journey through rugged terrain at the Orienteering Challenge near Burns/Naddle Bridge. Scheduled for November 8, 2026, this event offers courses that wind through steep open fells with crags and rock formations while carefully avoiding marshy sections and bracken areas.
Car parking is available along the old A66 road near the bridge, where participants should park neatly on the verges. The walk to the start from assembly takes about 300 meters, including a small climb of around 50 meters. Races begin between 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM.
The courses close at 2:30 PM sharp, with all participants required to report back for download regardless of completion status by this time. The far finish (Brown, Blue, Green) leads downhill from the finish line towards assembly over a distance of approximately 1.6 kilometers, while near finishes return within 300 meters.
Participants can choose pre-entry or entry on the day, with prices set at £10 for seniors and £5 for juniors/students. Maps are available in various scales: A3 (1:10000) for Brown, Blue, Red courses; A4 (1:7500) for all others.
Safety is paramount during this event. Competitors must wear appropriate clothing, carry whistles, and be aware of potential hazards like cliffs and grazing livestock. The nearest medical facilities are Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle and Mary Hewetson Cottage Hospital near Keswick.
