The King Sneferu Pyramids Challenge invites runners to explore the ancient sands of Dahshur, located south of Giza on the edge of Egypt's Western Desert. This unique race offers both 5K and 10K distances for participants aged 8 and above (with a minimum age requirement of 12 for the longer distance). The event is designed for runners of all abilities, with no prerequisites beyond an appreciation for history and adventure. Dahshur's landscape is steeped in archaeological significance. It was here that King Sneferu, considered the founder of Egypt’s pyramid-building tradition, constructed some of its most iconic structures. The Red Pyramid, recognized as the first smooth-sided pyramid ever built, and the Bent Pyramid, with its distinctive double-angled design, dominate the skyline. These monuments are visible from various points along both race routes. Unlike Giza's bustling plateau, Dahshur retains a serene desert ambiance, characterized by expansive views of open sand stretching into infinity under an endless sky. The route begins near the village of Dahshur and ventures deeper into the arid terrain where ancient history meets modern athleticism. Runners will traverse a stark setting shaped by over 4,500 years of human civilization, offering a rare sense of isolation and connection to the past. Participants can look forward to an immersive experience that combines physical challenge with historical wonder, making this event not just a race but a journey through time.
