Izer'Loop

Nestled in the Haut-Bugey region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, just minutes from Lake Nantua and Oyonnax, Izernore hosts Izer'Loop on May 15, 2027. The village, with its roots deeply embedded in Gallo-Roman history, offers a unique backdrop for this endurance event that challenges runners to push their limits at the foot of the Jura massif.
The course is a compact yet challenging loop of 5.95 kilometers, featuring an elevation gain of approximately 150 meters per lap—enough to test even the most seasoned athletes as they circle around ancient Gallo-Roman ruins and climb through scenic terrain. Over the span of up to 30 laps, runners will cover a total distance of 178.5 kilometers and conquer an elevation gain of nearly 4,500 meters.
Izer'Loop is more than just a race; it's a historical reenactment where participants embody Roman soldiers vying for the title of imperator under Julius Caesar’s watchful eye. Each lap completed earns runners higher ranks in the military hierarchy until only one remains to claim victory as Commander-in-Chief. The event concludes after 30 laps or when the first runner crosses the finish line, ensuring a thrilling climax.
Away from the course, Izernore offers cultural enrichment through its Archaeological Museum and historical walking paths. After racing, runners can indulge in local delicacies like pike quenelle with Nantua sauce, washed down with a glass of Bugey wine before relaxing on Lake Nantua’s shores.
Ave, runner: those who are about to lap salute you!
