iRun WNY New Year's Day 5K

Kick off 2027 at Fort Niagara State Park in Youngstown, New York, where iRun Western New York presents the 11th Annual 5K New Year's Classic. This year’s edition features two races: a pre-dawn run on December 31st and another under the winter sun on January 1st, both starting and finishing near Old Fort Niagara's historic lighthouse.
Participants who brave the cold will be rewarded with scenic routes through snow-covered landscapes and along Lake Ontario’s icy shores. The course is USATF-certified (#NY11071JG) and includes a single water stop that runners encounter twice during their journey, ensuring they stay hydrated throughout this challenging yet picturesque run.
Upon crossing the finish line, racers will receive custom-designed medals celebrating their achievement. A festive post-race celebration awaits inside a large heated tent across from the Officer's Club, complete with music, light snacks, and warm beverages for runners to enjoy while socializing with fellow participants or cheering on those still competing in the second race.
Registration is open until each event’s start time or when slots fill up. Early birds can sign up before December 15th at a discounted rate of $30/$35; combining both races costs just $55/60 for early registrants. Online registration remains available right up to the day, with packet pickup taking place from 10:30am until noon on race days.
For those who wish to bring their own adult beverages after turning 21, Fort Niagara State Park welcomes such celebrations within its grounds. Free parking is plentiful in the main lot near the pool/beach area, a short walk away from the start/finish line.
Join runners and history enthusiasts alike for this unique blend of athletic challenge and historical backdrop as you ring in the new year with a run through one of New York's most captivating state parks.
