The Great Glen Ultra (Short Course) offers an unforgettable adventure along the iconic Great Glen Way, stretching from Fort Augustas to Inverness on July 3rd, 2027. This challenging 42-mile foot race is designed for solo runners and features a self-supported format with drop bags available at three key checkpoints: Invermoriston, Drummnadrochit, and Abrachan.
The journey begins early in the morning from Fort Augustas Village Hall as participants are bused to the start line. The route follows the Great Glen Way High Route, offering breathtaking views of Loch Ness throughout the ascent towards Drumnadrochit. After a final climb over rolling hills, runners descend into Inverness and finish at the city's Sports Centre with one last lap around its 400m track.
Registration takes place at the Inverness Sports Centre before transportation to Fort Augustas for the official start time of 9am. With a strict 14-hour cutoff in effect, participants must navigate through varied terrain including steep climbs and scenic descents while enjoying panoramic views along Loch Ness.
Spectators are limited to designated areas at Invermoriston, Drumnadrochit, and the finish line; no support is permitted at Abrachan.
