Froggy Mountain 50 & 100: A Tribute to Resilience and Endurance Set against the backdrop of Galax, Virginia's lush mountain forest, Froggy Mountain offers runners an unforgettable challenge on June 18th. This private trail winds through a scenic woodland landscape, presenting both mental and physical tests for participants. The event features two distances: a grueling 50-mile race with over 25,000 feet of elevation gain, and the monumental 100-mile journey that climbs an astounding 50,000 vertical feet. Both races begin at 6 AM on Sunday, June 18th, extending into Monday evening. The cutoff time for both events is a generous but strict 6 PM on Monday. The course itself is known for its steep and relentless ascents, making proper training crucial. Participants are encouraged to incorporate significant vertical climbs or stair workouts in their preparation regimen. Poles are highly recommended due to the challenging terrain, while extra salt is advised given Virginia's humid summer climate. Race day starts with packet pickup from 5:00 AM to 5:45 AM on Sunday morning, followed by a pre-race meeting at 5:45 AM for final instructions. The race begins promptly at 6 AM, and participants are allowed to bring pacers after the 31-mile mark (approximately 50k). The aid station is a highlight of Froggy Mountain, offering delicious hot food throughout the event as well as an energizing party atmosphere. Runners can expect music, camaraderie, and support at every mile marker. Additionally, there's free camping for runners and their crews near the main aid station. For those looking to rest between shifts or catch some sleep away from the festivities, a mobile home Airbnb is available with various room options starting at $50 per night. Alternatively, local hotels and Airbnbs provide additional lodging choices nearby. The event also features private camping toilets on course for added convenience during long nights in the woods. In memory of fallen heroes PFC Dillon Jutras and PFC James Dexter Morris, all 100-mile finishers receive a custom-designed buckle that honors their sacrifice and resilience. Similarly, 50-mile finishers will be awarded a Froggy Mountain medal to commemorate their achievement. Froggy Mountain is more than just a race; it's an immersive experience celebrating the tenacity of runners while honoring those who have given everything for freedom. Join us on June 18th for what promises to be an unforgettable adventure in Virginia’s rolling hills and forests.
