Set against the backdrop of Eyam, known historically as the 'Plague Village,' the Eyam Fell Race offers runners an unforgettable challenge through rugged Peak District terrain. The race begins with a steep climb from Eyam up to Sir William Hill, passing by the Barrel Inn before heading towards Abney Moor. Here, participants are treated to breathtaking views of the surrounding moors and hills.
The course then takes a sharp turn down into Abney Moor, navigating tight switchbacks through heather-covered terrain back toward Sir William Hill. After this ascent, runners descend into a steep wooded section that leads them back to Eyam's historic streets. The race is known for its friendly atmosphere and supportive marshals, making it accessible for both experienced fell runners and newcomers.
Registration closes early due to limited spots, so interested participants should sign up promptly. Post-race festivities include a barbecue and bar in the Barrel Inn courtyard where prizes are awarded by generous sponsors. For younger enthusiasts aged 11-16, there’s also a junior race covering 3km with its own set of challenges including steps and steep ascents, providing an exciting introduction to fell running.
