About the Event

The Essex XC Champs, scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 9th, 2027 at Gloucester Park in Basildon (SS14 3GR), is set to be an exciting day for young and seasoned runners alike. Entries will remain open until Sunday, January 3rd, giving participants ample time to prepare.
The race features a variety of age categories designed specifically for youth and adults, each offering unique challenges on multi-lap courses that are expected to test the endurance and speed of competitors. Detailed course maps will be shared closer to the event date, allowing runners to familiarize themselves with the terrain in advance.
The morning begins at 9:45 AM with a non-championship race for U12 boys and girls (ages 10-11), followed by races tailored for older youths up until noon. The senior women's and U20 men's race kicks off at 12:20 PM, covering an approximate distance of 8 kilometers with athletes required to maintain a pace that allows them to complete the course within 65 minutes.
The highlight of the day is undoubtedly the Senior Men’s Race starting at 1:10 PM. This challenging event spans approximately 12 kilometers across multi-lap courses and requires participants to keep up an intense pace, with those unable to cover two-thirds of the distance in under fifty minutes being asked to retire from the race.
Participants should note that team medals are awarded based on scoring criteria for all age groups except Senior Men's category. All competitors must be registered members of England Athletics, abide by UKA Rules and Anti-Doping Regulations, ensuring a fair and competitive environment for everyone involved.
This event promises not only thrilling races but also an opportunity to celebrate the rich tradition of cross-country running in Essex with fellow athletes from across the region.
