Nestled within the rolling hills of Essex, the Essex 20 is an annual springtime celebration for runners aiming to fine-tune their marathon preparations. Held each March at Debden Airfield, this unique race offers a picturesque setting with a fast and flat tarmac course that winds across five laps. Debden Airfield, now disused but still vibrant, provides the perfect backdrop for both seasoned athletes and casual enthusiasts alike. The open-air layout ensures minimal wind resistance due to surrounding tree cover, making it an ideal venue for those looking to push their limits or simply enjoy a leisurely run with friends. The event doubles as the Inter-counties 20 mile road race champs and the Essex County Road Running Championships, attracting a competitive yet friendly atmosphere. As you lace up your shoes and join fellow runners on this historic course, anticipate an exhilarating experience that combines challenging competition with scenic beauty. For those wishing to contribute beyond personal achievement, the event partners with Alzheimer's Research UK, encouraging participants to raise funds while running for a meaningful cause. Opportunities to donate are available at checkout, allowing you to make every step count in more ways than one. Organized by ATW since 2011, this race is part of their mission to inspire and support athletes across various disciplines. With over 40,000 entries annually, the Essex 20 stands out as a beloved fixture on the UK running calendar, offering flexibility with event transfers up until 48 hours before your scheduled run. Join us at Debden Airfield for an unforgettable day of camaraderie and competition in one of England's most historic counties.
