Earth Day 50k/15 Mile/5 Mile

On April 17, 2027, runners from around the region gather at Veterans Acres Main Parking Lot in Crystal Lake, Illinois for an invigorating trail race through rolling hills and scenic terrain. The race offers three distances: a challenging 5-mile course, a more ambitious 15-mile trek, and a grueling yet rewarding 50k route.
The event kicks off early on the morning of April 17th with all runners starting together from the ball field near the pond. This initial stretch allows participants to spread out before diving into single-track trails that wind through Crystal Lake Park District's picturesque landscape. The course features rolling hills and varied terrain, providing a mix of challenges and scenic vistas.
Aid stations are strategically placed throughout the route, with one major station at both the start/finish line where runners can refuel on homemade goodies such as cookies and peanut butter sandwiches alongside typical ultra race fare like sports drinks, soda, chips, and pretzels. The event aims to be landfill-free by encouraging participants to bring their own water bottles.
Packet pickup is available Friday from 5 pm to 8 pm at the Ornery Mule Racing Trailhead in Crystal Lake or on race day starting at 6:30 am near the main parking lot. Awards will be given for first overall male and female finishers, as well as age group awards across several categories (Under 29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60+).
Participants are encouraged to sign up early to take advantage of discounted pricing. The race offers a generous rollover policy for those who need to defer their entry or switch distances before the deadline.
